Not sure about the "best" but I love the 2/13/70 show they produced, from the Intro by Zacharle "The Goddam Grateful Dead!" to the set it is probably my favorite or the 68 picks from the Dream Bowl maybe sorry i don't have the discs in front of me I am at work, but those two do it for me, but there are a lot of good ones though

It was great to hear Zacharle introducing the Dead. He lived in my neighborhood on Long island in the late 60's and really did up his large and nice old and wooded home for Halloween. It was a must stop trick or treat as he would answer the door. Nice memory. The Dead did have a unique group of friends and fans.......hell I loved 'em!

best performance?

Dick's Picks Vol 3 Sportatorium Pembroke Pines May 22, 1977 and probably the worst recording.

best recording?

One from the Vault Great American Music Hall San Francisco August 13th, 1975 and probably one of the ten greatest Grateful Dead performances of all time?
